Self-Image Throughout my experiences in the Emerging Leaders Academy, I have developed a positive self-image. Before coming into this course I was not as confident in myself, but through this course I have developed self confidence. I have also learned what I am capable of. This will help me in my future classroom, because I will know my limits and know when I can stretch myself. I will also be able to back upon my experiences and teach my students how to have a positive self-image.
Taking the Initiative to Lead In this lesson, I learned that I tend to take the lead when I know the people I am working with and when I do not know the people I am working with I do not tend to take the lead. This was the first time I thought about when I lead and it was surprising to me. Through the last servant leadership experience, I found myself helping one of the leaders of a group. This showed me that I am able to take some lead even if I do not know the people I am working with well. I hope to continue helping leaders and eventually taking the lead in my future school district instead of simply staying in the background, because I do not know the people I am working with.
Connecting with Others Through the discussion in class about this lesson, I developed some different ways to connect with others. When going through this lesson on my own, I noticed that the main way I connect with others is by active listening. During class we discussed others ways like sharing things with others and seeing the best in them. I hope to use these ways in my future classroom to connect with my students, like seeing the best in them. I also hope to share my story with them as they share theirs.
Team Building Skills When doing this lesson, I focused on what skills I have that help contribute to a team. Some skills I think are important when team building is to know those in your team. A leader should know their team's strength and weaknesses. This will help a leader to be stronger because they know how their team works best together. Another skill I have is appreciation. I am able to appreciate the work the team puts into the project. Overall, these two skills will help me in my future career because I know what I need to do to make a team successful.
Personal Reflection During my time in the Emerging Leaders Academy, I have found that reflection is a huge part of becoming a leader. If you never think about how your past has affected your future you may never grow and improve from it. I have found that I need to reflect upon my past in order to understand what I need to do to move forward. I found that from my freshman year to my junior year I have developed as a leader and have become more confident. It is important for me to continue reflecting on my actions in my future career so I will continue to develop as a leader.
